I was commissioned to produce a magazine advert/exhibition banner to promote the Bluebox Walk on wiFE product and their exhibition stand at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2016. The brief was to illustrate a one page strip in a Marvel / DC comic book style to feature in two leading trade magazines: Airline Passenger Experience (APEX) and Aircraft Interiors ahead of the expo.

Brand: Bovril, Unilever Commissioning agency: Mischief PR Bovril Brigade Website: www.bovrilbrigade.com I was commissioned to help produce a comic to celebrate Bovril's 130th anniversary. Bovril is a savoury drink made from beef extract that is popularly drunk around football grounds in the UK, particularly helping to keep football fans warm in winter. I was asked to illustrate six comic strips to promote the brand, four of which I also wrote. The new comic harks back to the original Bovril Brigade drawn by the legendary Frank Hampson, creator of The Eagle and Dan Dare, and brought up to date with the assistance of Pat Mills, the creator and first editor of 2000 AD. As part of the PR Campaign, the comic had coverage in the Daily Mail, Metro, radio and local press. As usual, my working method is initial pencil sketches, then scanning into Manga Studio to produce the artwork, and final touches in Photoshop. After the pencilling stage, everything else is done using the Surface Pro 3 with the latest Surface Pen that has been released with the Surface Pro 4. Kris Carter provided colours to all the strips I drew, apart from the Christmas Eve tale which I coloured myself. Five of of the comic strips are posted below and the full comic can be read online. It's not often I work on real life stories, so it was important to try and attain some level of historical accuracy; for example with the Nottingham Forest FA Cup story, the newsprint footage show the Forest team wearing white tops and black shorts when in fact they played the match in their traditional red strip. The reason they were in Derby County's strip for the team photograph was so that when the official photograph went to press, it would produce a a sharper and more contrasty image than wearing their own red shirts. One of the things I did get wrong though was the pitch markings, as the penalty box as we know it today did not exist in 1898.

Commissioning agency: Havas Lynx I've been working on and off in 2015 for an award winning agency in Manchester who have a global reach. They were named Consultancy of the Year at a recent industry awards, and the product I've been working on was also an award winner. Due to non-disclosure agreements, I can't say much more about the project except that the client is a large multinational, and I got to work in a manga style on various character designs and assets for a gamification tablet app for their Japanese market. This is a tattoo design I illustrated which was intended to wraparound the length of a client's arm from the shoulder down to the wrist. The client was big Marvel and DC Comics fan. His original concept was to try and have a comic strip running in a sequence but it proved too difficult from a storytelling point of view to try and shoehorn as many characters in as he wanted, so we agreed on a montage of his favourite comic book superheroes and villains instead.
